A fun event designed to create a competitor to the world famous BLT.
Helensburgh and Lomond, the birthplace of John Logie Baird the inventor of television, seemed to our Webmaster Jim Chestnut, to be the best place to invent another gastronomic masterpiece using the initials of the world famous inventor.
Sponsored by our local radio station YOUR RADIO, competitors were asked to submit their recipes for judging by a panel of local "experts". Five finalists were selected and on the afternoon of Sunday the 31st of May 2009, the Head Chef of the LOGIE BAIRD pub in Helensburgh prepared the sandwiches for judging by a panel selected by the Friends. YOUR RADIO provided live transmission from the LOGIE BAIRD during the winning presentation.
The trophy, presented to the winner, designed and hand crafted by Martin Harper of The Gathering on West Clyde Street, Helensburgh is a stainless steel bread knife with antler and bull horn handle mounted on a solid oak base.
Five finalists were chosen and their recipies prepared by Sarah Parker, Head Chef at the Logie Baird pub, the venue for this event. The Judges, Joan Mulroy, Citizen of the year, David Carnduff, Editor of the Helensburgh Advertiser joint sponsors of the event and Sarah Parker, Head Chef at the Logie Baird.
The winning sandwich consisted of chicken, haggis, melted cheese on plain bread slightly toasted with a choice of onion in or on the side of the sandwich.

The worthy winner Angela Pearson of Cardross Road, Helensburgh with Friends of Victoria Hall, joint sponsors of the Event.
YOUR RADIO provided the publicity on the run up to this event supported by the HELENSBURGH ADVERTISER. The winning JLB sandwich is now on the LOGIE BAIRD menu. The Friends wish to thank Jim Chestnut for the original idea, The John Logie Baird Pub for hosting the event, Your Radio and the Helensburgh Advertiser for the publicity, the panel of judges but most of all the competitors. All these photographs and more can be viewed in the latest JLB Gallery. 'Images courtesy of Felicity Green"
